Buddusò (in Sardinian Uddusò) is a Municipality of 4,035 inhabitants, set 700 m. a.s.l. upon a granite plateau covered with flourishing woods, partially shifted into pastures and partially into cultivated area. In the eastern part there are the slopes of Ololvica Peak (892 m.), where the River Tirso springs up, the longest Sardinian river, while some streams flow in the West until artificial Lake Lerno.

Today’s village arose in the Middle Age and belonged to the Giudicato of Torres.

Buddusò economy is based on farming, with a considerable legacy of ovine, bovine and caprine cattles and on exploitation of granite pits and its export all over the world. Firewood trading is also important and very appreciated are the manufactured products coming from the woodcarving workshops.

The broad area of Buddusò is particularly rich in Nuraghi (e.g. Curtu, Domenighedda, Iselle, La Corona, Ludurru, Selcia, Sa Ena), Domus de Janas (Molino, Nullu, Ozastru, Ludurru) and Giants’ Graves (Biralò, Iselle, Loelle). It’s very interesting the Nuragic Fount of Sos Muros, the dolmens in Stiddi and Sos Monumentos and the spoils dating back to the Roman Age present in several sites. Very important are the archaeological compounds of Loelle, set few kilometers far from the village, and of Teltoro, near the way to Bitti.

The old town is particularly remarkable with its typical granite dwellings and 1800 well kept palaces overlooking on the main street paved with granite. Worth mentioning are the old parish church of Sant’Anastasia and the church of San Quirico (XVII century) in the village centre. On the way to Alà dei Sardi there is the rural church of Santa Reparata, dating back to the end of the XV century and built in Gothic-Catalan style.
